Every person on planet earth sees the world differently. There is no arguing that fact when you have a group of random people in a room together and introduce an outside factor - a snake, a spider, a bee, a puppy, a kitten, a baby. Not everyone will react to that factor the same way. This is true because not everyone is going to have the same emotional or mental reaction. What is that reaction based on? Programming.Neuro-Linguistic Programming states that every person has been programmed based on past experiences and beliefs that have developed over time. These programs in the mind dictate how a person will respond to things - and that isn't always a good thing. If a person encounters a stimulus that is associated with a negative program, they will react with fear, anger and any number of other negative emotions. The key to Neuro-Linguistic Programming is to realize that this is true and work to change that program - to turn negatives to positives.NLP is also incredibly useful in the treatment of depression, habit disorders and psychosomatic illnesses because it seeks to expose the cause of the problem - the often deeply hidden, subconscious program that triggers the issue - and solve it. One effective means of doing this is called anchoring. Anchoring is a method employed NLP in which the NLP practitioner actively listens to what the patient is telling them and picks up clues as to where the problem lies. By asking targeted questions the practitioner helps the patient get to the root of the problem - let's say depression - and identify exactly what has been programmed into the mind to trigger the depressed feelings. Once that trigger has been discovered, the change can begin.Having identified the program, the NLP practitioner will then set about helping the patient anchor this trigger to another, more pleasant, stimulus. The goal is to change the way the person reacts to the trigger in the first place. Instead of something negative, anchoring allows the patient to associate the trigger with something positive, thereby making their reaction more positive and theoretically, solving the problem. While NLP teaches us that we are our own worst enemies, by training in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and utilizing the tools NLP gives us, such as anchoring, we can begin to make the changes in our minds that we need to make before making changes in our lives. Above all else, the greatest change NLP seeks to make is to change our point of view on life so that we are no longer our own worst enemy - instead changing that fundamental program so we become our own best friend.
